Gutter cleaning in Greater Vancouver

What the job includes

Anything outside this gets quoted separately and shown to you before we start. We do not add line items after the fact.
The tiger stripes are a separate problem
Two different things go wrong with gutters and people tend to conflate them.
The first is the inside filling with needles, leaves and moss until it stops draining. In a region that gets this much rain that turns into water spilling over the back edge and running down the wall, or into a fascia board rotting quietly where you cannot see it.
The second is the black vertical streaking on the outside face, which is not dirt. It is a bonded film of oxidised aluminium and road grime, and it will not come off with a rinse. It needs a specific cleaner and hand agitation. Clearing your gutters does not fix it, which is why it is priced separately.
Questions we get asked
Do you clear it by hand or blow it out?
By hand, into a bag. Blowing gutters out with a leaf blower moves the debris onto your roof, your garden and your windows, and it does not shift the compacted wet layer at the bottom, which is the part actually blocking the flow.
Will you check the downspouts?
Every one of them, with water. A gutter that looks clean but has a blocked downspout is still going to overflow, so this is the part that matters most and it is included.
Can you fix the black stripes on the outside?
Yes, that is gutter face brightening and it is a separate line on the quote. It needs a dedicated cleaner and hand work. Most people add it when they are already booking a house wash.
How often in this climate?
Twice a year is the honest answer for most homes here, autumn being the important one. If you have conifers overhanging the roof, autumn alone will not keep up.
